Mailing List Issues

Hi all,

I have just received an email from Bill Skees, who hasn't has a new Digest arrive since August 4th. Since that time I have had many arrive.

In a recent email I received from SourceForge, there were these words:
"we recently had to change our mail policies due to tightening
anti-spam legislation to make legacy users confirm their subscription or else they
were un-subscribed. If you had a service mail account that would receive mailing
list mail then post it to an external script then it's probably disconnected. You
will need to re-subscribe that service address to the mailing list(s) it previously
was receiving, and then receive the confirmation mails on it's e-mail address (with
a webmail form or IMAP client) and opt it back in."

I'm not sure what all of that means, but it could well be that some of us need to re-subscribe to the mailing list.

Hi all,

The Nabble Forum/jOrgan Mailing List (SourceForge) is still having problems - but the opposite of Bill Skees’ problem. For some people whose posts are showing in the Digests, their posts are not turning up on the Forum. I did a quick search on the Nabble Support Forum and saw this answer in response to what seems to be a similar problem:

"I gather you are attempting to post to a mail list via Nabble archive of that list. In such cases Nabble simply has its own subscription to the list in question and re-posts all the messages it receives through its subscription to a forum. Any posts made to the forum are forwarded to the mail list with the Nabble user's email details shown as sender.

If you are not a subscriber to the original list then most mail lists will reject the post. When Nabble detects this it displays the message: "This post has NOT been accepted by the mailing list yet."

The most likely cause of the conflict you describe is that you have registered at the Nabble archive with a different email address to that used in your subscription to the mail list.”

I don’t pretend to understand all this, but plainly something needs to be done about it. My usage of the Nabble Forum seems to be behaving, and I don’t believe I have subscribed other than by using the SourceForge subscription to the mailing list. Can anyone shine any light?

Hi Rick,

Thanks.

This has been a very frustrating couple of weeks. It even had me
investigating setting up my own website for jOrgan to host a Discussion
Forum plus the jOrgan Wiki. I don't welcome the thought of having to learn
the ropes, but nevertheless I may have to do something in the near future,
to accommodate our Wiki.

Did you send this post via the Nabble Forum, or via the Mailing List? (I
still have to check whether posts to the Mailing List get through to the
Forum - but I suspect they do, otherwise Nabble would not go ahead and
publish any posts there - even those sent via Nabble).

Best wishes,
John

In sending this, I thought I was sending a private email to Rick. Oh, the

Hi John

I am glad you are fighting to keep things going. I am sorry I don't have time at the moment to do anything.

I only ever get posts in the email list and reply to them by email. Sometimes laptop, sometimes android tablet, occasionally android phone.

Regards
Rick
